[In a later hand (spidery, as if written by an aged person), written in faded ink or pencil: March 5, 1797]
Downing Street Saturday
My Dear Mrs Stapleton
I have great pleasure in telling you that yesterday went off as well as possible. Mr [William] Pitt all himself in all respects and at 3 oClock in the morning - the Nos [numbers] were 209 to 62.
I had a very good account of my shop a day or two ago from Mr Sedgwick.
The Bank Cloud is dispelling very much, in particular, the apprehensions (and indeed danger) of tonights weekly payments have subsided.
