Francis Fawkes, Rector of Hayes, addressed the following lines to the bride-groom, making a delicate allusion to his well-known Republican attitude: 'When gentle hearts in faithful union join, And mix the Hero's with the Patriot line, With every charm uniting every grace, And all the virtues of the Temple race, The happy omen we with joy admit, And bless the match of Stanhope and Pitt.'
