This is one of a pair of miniatures in the Port Eliot collection which are possible likenesses of Peter Fortescue and Bridget Eliot (near the time of their marriage in 1646). The portraits were examined by J.D. Milner, director of the National Portrait Gallery, who dated them between 1640 and 1650. The miniature of the woman bears a remarkable family resemblance to Sir John Eliot.
