39. William Graham (W.G.) Sandford, Unpaid Attache to Frankfort, Paris, Brussels & Turin (Third Secretary in Her Majesty's diplomatic service), c. 1860. Later Sec'y to the British Legation at Buenos Ayres, Argentina, and then Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

40. John Hellecombe, formerly of Rio de Janeiro, was (at the time of his death in 1890) Chairman of the Amazon Steam Navigation Co. and one of the directors of the London and Brazilian Bank. Photo taken c. 1860

42. Baron von Maltzen, onetime Bavarian envoy to Berlin, c. 1860. He belonged to a very high family in Germany, having come over to England on business for the Transvaal Gov't. He was an officer (and a very smart one, according to contemporary newspaper reports) in the Germany Army, having been killed at Elandslaagte during the second Boer War.
